Seaside Exercise Physiology FAQ

What is an exercise physiologist?
Accredited Exercise Physiologists are: * university qualified allied health professionals who deliver safe and effective exercise programs for people with medical conditions, injuries or disabilities. * equipped with knowledge and skill to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise for people with medical conditions, injuries or disabilities * service providers for exercises that improve health and fitness, improve wellbeing, improve performance * professionals who aid in the prevention of chronic medical conditions.
What happens in an Exercise Physiology consultation?
Consultations take 30 to 60 minutes to form a holistic approach designed to achieve a beneficial lifestyle change through exercise. We discuss medical history, conditions affecting movement, likes and dislikes and decide on strategies to meet goals.
How Much Does It Cost?
Initial consultation * GP Care Plan Referrals (Medicare funded) - gap fee * Private consultations $95 - Health Fund Rebates may apply Subsequent private consultations * $70 - Health Fund Rebates may apply
Classes * Move to Improve $17 - Health Fund Rebates may apply * Tai Chi $12 * Hydrotherapy $20 - including pool entry fee
What is a Medicare Referral Plan?
What is a Medicare Chronic Disease Management Plan? Medicare Australia developed a ‘chronic disease management plan’ for medical practitioners to refer patients to Allied Health Professionals. Your GP can refer you to an Allied Health Provider such as Seaside Exercise Physiology for conditions covered by Medicare Care Plans.
Can I claim health insurance for Exercise Physiology from my private health fund?
Exercise Physiology services are recognised by almost all private health funds. We recommend you contact your health fund provider to ensure you are eligible for Exercise Physiology services. This will be dependent on your level of cover and in order to get a rebate for our consultations and classes your Private Health Fund must cover Exercise Physiology.
What should I wear?
Wear clothes that you are comfortable to move in and comfortable shoes (sports shoes are ideal). Bring a water bottle and a beach size towel.
Do I need a GP referral?
A GP referral is required for all Move to Improve participants.A referral provides the exercise physiologist with information that enables them to provide you with an exercise program that is safe.
How Does Exercise Physiology differ from Physiotherapy?
Exercise Physiologists: * do not diagnose musculoskeletal conditions.* tend to look at the whole person and their needs based on goals, medical conditions and musculoskeletal status for lifelong physical benefits and lifelong exercise adherence * motivate you to reach the Australian Exercise Guidelines for Good Health and weight loss
